God Speaks Through Creation

Micah

Scripture: Psalms 19

Psalm 19

God speaks through creation

Who cooked this dish? Who baked this bread?

We are wired to admire creation and those who create.

Who made the spacecraft Cassini?
Cassini was designed in 17 countries and took 15 years to build. It traveled billions of miles. And even more: who made Saturn?

In Psalms 19:1-4, creation proclaims God day to day without the need of language, throughout the world. Jesus: "My Father is always working."

For example the sun "runs its course with joy." The earth is like a 20 sen coin while the door is the size of the sun. Its position, heat and tilt create an exacting precision.

What is God doing in our world where we are?

Tips: Pray with open eyes

1. Step outside the cool of morning: Lord in what way are you revealing your glory to me outdoors?

2. Listen to bird song. Spot the burung kunyit (black naped Oriole). When it sings, we sing to God.

Humans refuse to honor creation or thank the creator

Romans 1:21-23
Although they knew God, they did not honor him as God or give thanks to him.
Notice that we are all deeply religious. We are wired to worship. If we don't worship God, we worship physical and spiritual idols. As a result there is the "noetic effects of sin."

Theologian Alvin Platinga says:
"a believer's sinfulness undermines his natural knowledge of God by diluting it with doubts and skepticism"

Reflect:
How have you disregarded the living Creator God in your life?

and yet God continues to reveal himself in special ways

The primary ways we can know God revealed in creation:

Scripture. God's word makes God's revelation in creation much clearer. And yet we cannot read God's word without...

the Spirit who gives us new birth. No one can see the kingdom of God unless one is born again of the Spirit. John 3:5-6. The Spirit enables us to see the universe with new eyes and ears.

2 Cor 4:6.
For God, who said, “Let light shine out of darkness,” made his light shine in our hearts to give us the light of the knowledge of God’s glory displayed in the face of Christ

Christ the person. All creation point to him. Ponder that creation is for Christ.
Col 1: 16 "For in him all things were created: things in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or powers or rulers or authorities; all things have been created through him and for him."

Pastor Micah:
"All creation speaks.
But we need the new creation of the Spirit
through his Word
to hear properly."

Prayer exercises

1. Look around where we work this week: at home, family, workplace. These are the works of the Creator.

2. We pray: Holy Spirit, restore my eyes to see Christ and his fingerprints everywhere this week.
