Scripture: Philippians 2:12-30

Phil 2:12-30
Ps Wong Fong Yang

Work hard to show the results of your salvation, obeying God with deep reverence and fear. 2:13

Paul worked out his salvation by pondering the question Jesus asked him: Saul, Saul, why do you persecute me?

Reflection: consider how we came to Christ. In what way might the way we came to Christ shape how we are living today?

"Do everything without complaining and arguing"
Philippians 2:12‭-‬14

Complaining comes when we compare what we do with others. It robs us of the joy of serving.

Reflect: what do we tend to compare about? Who do we usually compare ourselves with, that is God calling for us to rejoice in the gifts of others?

Arguing comes from stoking conflicting views. Instead: how do we listen and acknowledge differences in views?

We seek to embrace the diversity while seeking unity of spirit. This will enable us to "shine like stars."

Two examples of Humility: Timothy and Epaphroditus

What are their actions?

+ cheer people by sharing how people are getting along

+ Care for well-being and needs of others

+ Focus on what matters to Jesus

+ Willing to risk life for the sake of Christ

In work, how might we embody humility and selflessness?

Who are we being called to serve this week?

What is their mission or purpose (in family, work or church) that we seek to serve?

In order to do this, what self-emptying is required? What do I need to let go of?
